About

Liz McDonough.

When Liz was in second grade, she was accused of “being in her own little world.” Little did her teacher know that this vibrant inner life would become a springboard for a dynamic career as a performer, drama therapist, innovator, and speaker. With a unique background that bridges her theatrical career in New York with over two decades of clinical work as an MFT, Liz has emerged as a leading expert in employing creative strategies to help neurodivergent individuals flourish in school, at work, and within their communities.

Liz has dedicated her career to transforming education for neurodivergent students, working closely with teachers to create joyful and accessible learning environments. As a late-diagnosed ADHDer herself, Liz brings personal insight and a flair for storytelling to her work, with equal parts wisdom and humor. A sought-after speaker and consultant, Liz has shared her innovative strategies at conferences, workshops, and training sessions for educators and therapists nationwide, including the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium and The AAMFT Systemic Therapy Conference. Local businesses have also benefited from her expertise, learning how to navigate challenges and leverage the strengths of their neurodivergent employees.

Liz holds a B.A. in Drama from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She has taught at the graduate level at The California Institute of Integral Studies, supervised countless associate therapists to licensure and provides neurodiversity consultation internationally. Her commitment to accessibility and inclusion remains as strong as it was at the beginning of her career.

Liz currently lives in Durham, North Carolina, and on any given day, you may find her singing, hiking or hatching up a new idea—often simultaneously.
